Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Futurematic in 1953 with development reported to have begun around 1951. This was a time when the watch industry was experiencing a period of rapid innovation and technological advancement.

The Futurematic was the world's first watch without a crown for winding the mainspring, instead a flat crown on the case back was used solely for setting the time. It was also one of the first automatic watches to feature a power reserve indicator, which allowed wearers to easily monitor how much energy was left in the watch's mainspring. This was a significant development at the time, as it helped to address one of the biggest challenges facing automatic watches - namely, their tendency to lose accuracy as their power reserves dwindled.

Over the years, the Futurematic was offered with numerous case and dial designs. Crafted with a 35mm 10k gold filled and stunning black dial, this example of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Futurematic is a stunning addition to any collection. The sleek black dial features elegant gold hour markers and hands (complete with gorgeous lume), creating a striking contrast that catches the eye. You'll also notice the name on the dial is printed Le Coultre in place of the full Jaeger LeCoultre, a sign this watch would have originally been for the US market.

Presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial remains in exceptional condition, the best we've seen. Lume plots on the dial and hands are matching. The glass is in excellent shape as is the case that remains largely free of damage aside from an occasional scratch as would be expected for a watch of this age. The watch is fitted to a 3rd party Hirsch leather strap.
