A beautiful early example of the highly collectable Omega Seamaster 600 reference 166.077, aka the Omega Ploprof.
Put simply the Omega Ploprof is an iconic dive watch. Born from the need for reliable "ultra water-resistant" dive watches, the Omega Ploprof is considered by some to be the first watch designed specifically for this purpose. Developed in collaboration with COMEX the two standout features of the Ploprof are its bezel lock (released by pressing the red button) and its unique crown locking mechanism (designed to protect the watch from knocks and snagging). As a side note, it's interesting to know that at the time the Omega Ploprof was twice the price of the Rolex Submariner!
Hailing from circa 1971, this example of the Omega Ploprof received a full overhaul from Omega during 2011 where it was fitted with a service dial and handset, both of which are in mint condition. The original "sandwich" dial and original handset were both retained and will be included in the sale. The original Mark 1 case is in excellent condition with the graining still clearly visible. The bi-directional bezel is also original and in spectacular condition, working flawlessly when the red but is pressed. The fully serviced calibre 1002 automatic movement (serviced by Omega in 2011 and again by us in 2019) is pristine and working perfectly. The later shark mesh bracelet was correct for the reference although would have been added later as this was only offered as an option from circa 1975. It also comes with the optional 1-inch long extension.
For more information on this fascinating watch, we would highly recommend the following two resources. For an excellent look at the correct history of the watch and the multiple variations of its parts, The Ploprof 600 - A Collectors Guide is indispensable. If you want to geek out on the design and functionality of the watch, we would also recommend reading Omega Seamaster Professional 600m/2000ft
Rarer by the day and marking an important point in the development of the dive watch, not to mention a passionate and growing following, the Omega Ploprof is sure to see significant price growth in the coming years. More importantly we think its simply a fantastic watch that stands out in a world of look-a-like dive watches!

Do watches come with original box and papers?
It depends on the individual watch. You can see details under "The Basics" heading on this page. For the majority of vintage watches their original box and papers have been lost to time. Whilst they are nice to have, it’s important to note that “box and papers” DO NOT authenticate a watch despite what many in our trade say. It’s also important to realise alot of sellers (including some of the most well known in the UK) put together full sets of box, papers, hang tags etc by buying blank paperwork and boxes in the secondary market. This is a very regrettable, but unfortunately common occurrence in the trade but something we will never do!
How do I know it will fit?
For metal bracelets we provide the size it will currently fit in the description section of this page. If this measurement is too large or too small we are able to assist in either adding or removing links. We also offer this service, post service on a at-cost basis (i.e. we don't add a margin).
Can you change the strap?
Absolutely! If you don't like the current strap, let us know and we'll change it for free! We maintain a broad selection of styles and can also source straps to your specification free of charge.
