An attractive example of a Rolex Datejust 1603 from circa 1973 featuring a rare "sigma dial". This reference 1603 sports a beautiful black sigma dial, fully serviced 1570 movement and comes with a Rolex service pouch.
This Datejust reference 1603 features the collectable "sigma" dial. A sigma dial is identified by the "σ T SWISS T σ" text at the base of the dial with "σ" being the lower case Greek letter sigma. At a time when gold prices quintupled between 1970 and 1974, the sigma marks were intended to show the use of gold on the dial and increase its perceived value. Overall this watch is in excellent condition, with a clean dial, good thickness to the case and a fully serviced movement. The watch comes fitted with a jubilee bracelet, visually it's in decent condition but does have significant stretch to it.
All in all, this is a fantastic example of the highly collectable sigma variant of the Rolex Datejust 1603. Be quick as we don't suppose this will hang around!
