An excellent example of the Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806 Mk.8 "Big Eyes"

The Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 is an iconic and timeless aviation timepiece that boasts a rich and fascinating history. Since its inception in 1952, the Navitimer has evolved into one of the most sought-after watches in the world, combining functionality with captivating design.

Origins: A Timepiece for Aviators
In the early 1950s, Breitling collaborated with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) to develop a watch specifically for pilots. The Navitimer, named after its dual function as a navigator and timer, was designed with a revolutionary slide rule bezel to assist with complex calculations during flight. This innovation solidified the Navitimer's place as the ultimate aviation tool, allowing pilots to determine airspeed, fuel consumption, and distance, all while keeping track of time.

Design Evolution: The Birth of Reference 806
The Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 was introduced in 1959, featuring an all-black dial with three contrasting subdials. This layout not only improved legibility but also marked a significant departure from the original Navitimer's design. The Reference 806 was powered by the Venus 178 manual-winding movement, a reliable and accurate mechanism that would remain the heart of the watch for years to come. With its innovative combination of style and functionality, the Reference 806 quickly became a favorite among pilots and watch enthusiasts alike.

The Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 Mark 8 "Big Eyes": A Coveted Classic
The Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 Mark 8, nicknamed the "Big Eyes" due to its enlarged subdials, represents a unique and highly sought-after variant within the Navitimer family. Introduced in the late 1960s, the "Big Eyes" featured a distinct design that improved readability and added a touch of boldness to the watch's aesthetics.

The Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 Mark 8 - A Watch the Has it All
This iconic watch has it all - the brains of an aviation tool watch, the beauty of a bold design, and the brawn of a reliable movement. If you're in search of a vintage timepiece that effortlessly soars above the rest while keeping a twinkle in its "Big Eyes," look no further than the Navitimer Reference 806 Mark 8. Just be prepared for the envious glances and endless questions it's sure to attract!
