A beautiful example of the highly sought after Rolex Submariner reference 5513 with a mark 3 maxi dial. Also known as the "lollipop" dial, owing to its large tritium hour plots appearing to touch the five minute hash marks, lollipop dials of the ref 5513 Submariner's continue to grow in popularity and price and represent a fantastic investment.
Every serious Rolex or vintage watch collector should consider including one (or several) variant of the Rolex Submariner reference 5513 in their collection. Introduced in 1962 the reference 5513 was issued in a number of variants in its long production run that lasted upto 1989.
This particular watch belongs to what are known as Maxi dials which in turn fall under "matte dials" (opposed to gilt or glossy dial variants). There were 5 versions of the maxi dials with this one representing a mark 3 variant. Mk.3 maxi dials can be recognised by the following features; large tritium hour plots that often appear to touch the 5 minute hash marks, "open 6's", a unique serif on the "f" in the depth rating and the "0's" in 200m lining up directly underneath the “N and E” in “SUBMARINER”.
This watch benefits from a mint condition dial with beautifully aged lume plots in fantastic condition. The case retains good thickness and the lugs avoid the over-polishing often seen on other examples. The bezel is in overall good condition and the movement has just received a full service. The watch comes fitted with a new, hand-stitched leather strap which is how we like to wear our 5513's! An original bracelet can be sourced if required.
All-in-all a wonderful example of an important watch in the history of Rolex and one that will not only provide many years of pleasure but also offer a strong investment for its new owner!
