A beautiful example of the highly collectible and historically important Jaeger-LeCoultre Futurematic.

Jaeger-LeCoultre released the Futurematic in 1953 with development reported to have begun around 1951. This was a time when the watch industry was experiencing a period of rapid innovation and technological advancement.

The Futurematic distinguished itself as the world's inaugural watch devoid of a traditional crown for winding. Instead, it adopted a discreet, flat crown located on the case back exclusively for setting the time. It was among the pioneering automatic watches to integrate a power reserve indicator, a feature that significantly enhanced usability by allowing wearers to visually gauge the remaining energy in the mainspring. This innovation was particularly noteworthy, addressing the prevalent issue of diminishing accuracy in automatic watches as their power reserves waned.

Throughout its production, the Futurematic was presented in a variety of case and dial configurations. This particular model, with its 35mm 10k gold-filled case and exquisite black dial, has to be our favourite. Notably, the dial bears the name Le Coultre, indicating its initial destination for the U.S. market.
