Rolex Air-King 5500, 1980

An excellent example of the Rolex Air-King, reference 5500, from circa 1980. Whilst other Rolex models get a greater share of attention, the Air-King remains a favourite among purists of purpose-led design.

Often known as the “Warrior Watch”, the Rolex Air-King has a long and storied history dating back to the mid-1930s. Originally developed to honour the British fighter pilots during World War II, the Air-King is praised by collectors for its simple athletics, accuracy and robustness.

The design is clean and timeless. It has everything you need and nothing you don't. No surprise then, that during its 37-year production, the 5500's design was left largely untouched. 

Technical & Condition:

Condition: Presented in overall excellent condition. The dial remains clean and free from damage. The case whilst previously polished retains a decent shape. The bracelet remains in good condition with only minor stretch for its age. The movement is fully serviced.
