The Rolex DateJust embodies everything a Rolex should be; elegant, reliable and robust. This particular watch a reference 1601, produced in 1977 remains in stunning condition and runs superbly having recently undergone a full service.
Originally launched in 1945 to mark the 40th anniversary of Wilsdorf & Davis (the company that would go onto become Rolex), the DateJust features a 36mm Oyster case, waterproof to 100m and powered by a certified chronometer movement.
The first DateJust was produced in yellow gold (as well as a small number in pink gold) followed by a steel and gold version and finally just steel. However it wasn’t until the early 1950’s that the name DateJust started appearing on the dial. Early examples also didn’t feature the infamous Cyclops lens, something that didn’t make an appearance on the DateJust until 1955.
With its timeless elegance, robust and reliable movement this Rolex DateJust reference 1601 works well for both formal and more casual occasions.
