Oysterdate Line Evolution:
The Rolex Oysterdate line, launched in the 1950s and remained part of Rolex's lineup until 1989, represents the brand's endeavor to offer high-quality, more accessible watches. Distinct from the typical Rolex fare, these models featured manually-wound movements, diverging from the brand's signature automatic 'Perpetual' mechanism. They also lacked COSC certification, bearing the 'Precision' label instead of the usual 'Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified' inscription. Smaller in size at 34mm, the Oysterdate was positioned as an entry-level option, akin in design to the iconic Datejust but distinct in its approach and affordability.

Refinement of the Reference 6694:
As the last iteration in the Oysterdate series, the ref. 6694, introduced in the late 1950s, brought notable improvements such as the Breguet overcoil hairspring and a higher-beat movement. Significantly, for the next three decades, Rolex maintained the ref. 6694, such was its recipe for success!

Condition Report

Condition Report: Presented in overall good vintage condition. The dial, possibly professionally refurbished in the past remains in excellent order. The hands also remain in excellent condition having been previously re-lumed to a high standard with the colour matching the dial plots. For its age the case remains in good shape having been previously refurbished. The visible part of the watch in excellent condition. There is some slight loss of plating to the underside of the lug edges but this is not visible when being worn. The movement has just had a full service and finally we've fitted the watch with an attractive, 3rd party leather strap with a gold coloured buckle.
