The Emergence of the Tri-Compax
In the 1940s, Universal Geneve introduced the Tri-Compax, a series of chronograph watches that featured three complications: a moon phase, a calendar, and a chronograph function. The Tri-Compax quickly gained popularity due to its sophisticated design and impressive features.
The Reference 22250: A Closer Look
The Universal Geneve Tri-Compax reference 22250 featured a stainless steel case with a diameter of 34.5mm, making it an ideal size for both men and women. The watch housed the legendary Calibre 481 Dorato movement, renowned for its reliability and precision. We can confirm this combination using Universal's case numbering system, where the first digit tells us it uses a stainless steel case, the second that it uses a chronograph movement and the third that this should either be a calibre 281, 283 or 481.
The Dial: A Masterpiece of Design
The dial of the reference 22250 is a true work of art, with its intricate layout and elegant design. The main dial Arabic numerals, with a date indicator displayed at the 12 o'clock position along with the elegant moon phase, while the chronograph sub-dials are positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. The attention to detail and harmonious arrangement of the dial's elements makes the reference 22250 a timeless design that remains highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Do watches come with original box and papers?
It depends on the individual watch. You can see details under "The Basics" heading on this page. For the majority of vintage watches their original box and papers have been lost to time. Whilst they are nice to have, it’s important to note that “box and papers” DO NOT authenticate a watch despite what many in our trade say. It’s also important to realise alot of sellers (including some of the most well known in the UK) put together full sets of box, papers, hang tags etc by buying blank paperwork and boxes in the secondary market. This is a very regrettable, but unfortunately common occurrence in the trade but something we will never do!
How do I know it will fit?
For metal bracelets we provide the size it will currently fit in the description section of this page. If this measurement is too large or too small we are able to assist in either adding or removing links. We also offer this service, post service on a at-cost basis (i.e. we don't add a margin).
